3D-Printing Silicone Soft Robots
Conceptualization, design and manufacturing of a benchmark testing specification for soft actuators in collaboration with The Self Assembly Lab at MIT.
Recent developments in the field of Soft Robotics have shown a multitude of design and manufactur-ing methods for robotic appendages, whether they be used in grippers or as a mean of locomotion. However, there is little to go off of to compare, quali-fy and quantify these results.
The goal of this project would include:
- Writing a state-of-the-art of existing designs and research in the field
- Synthesizing the research to form clear crite-ria for performance evaluation
- Designing a set of tests which would provide the user with valid and repeatable results
Desirable student qualities
- Strong interest in the field of soft robotics
- Strong background in mechanical testing methods
- A desire to collaborate with an international institution
