Mass customization of SLS printed camera handles for videography professionals
Within this project, you will have the opportunity to implement mass customization through Additive Manufacturing for a real, end-user product. The thesis is conducted with our industrial partner ALPA and open for students from D-MAVT, INFK and CSE.
Current camera handles for videography professionals are intentionally kept generic, which results in unergonomic shapes, suboptimal grip, confusingly many interfaces and no opportunity for individualization of aesthetics. Your task is to change that by bringing mass customization and AM to the field of camera accessories with an intuitive and playful configurator. A first concept of the handle has been developed during a former student thesis, which is not yet customizable. We are envisioning several customizations (e.g. individualized ergonomic shapes fitting the dimensions of the user’s hand, automatically generated textures to increase grip or customizable aesthetics as logos & names).

In this project, you have the opportunity to design an end-to-end solution for a real AM product, ranging from first customer interaction on a web-based platform, over design generation and optimization, to automated ordering from suppliers. Frequent testing of your solution with real customers is an essential part of your project.
