Influence of moisture on the SLM process
The SLM process is strongly influenced by the raw material - the powder. Metal powder can absorb moisture during the SLM process chain. Moisture degrades the component properties or even prohibits the processing of powder. This negative influence is to be investigated in this thesis.
Selective laser melting (SLM) is a powder-based additive manufacturing process for the layerwise production of metal components. The SLM process and thus the quality of the components are strongly influenced by the raw material - the powder. Metal powder can absorb moisture during the SLM process chain. It has already been shown for some materials that moisture degrades the component properties or even prohibits the processing of powder.
Therefore, the influence of moisture on the SLM process must be investigated. In the course of this semester work / Bachelor thesis / Master thesis, fresh powder will be selectively moistened, the powder characteristics (eg. flowability) are examined and the powder will be processed in the SLM process. To this end, Inspire offers the necessary measuring technology, an industrial SLM system as well as an SLM experimental setup.
